This article describes how you will enable insurance at vehicle and global level for your fleet as well as decide on enabling personal insurance verification
To Enable Insurance at the Vehicle Level
Important — Individual Vehicle Activation: You must navigate to each vehicle's profile individually to click + Apply Now in order to apply/enable insurance for your vehicle. A vehicle is not protected by Wheelbase insurance until it has been specifically submitted and marked as "Approved."
Video walkthrough: How to apply insurance to each of your vehicles
From your dashboard, select the Vehicles tab. Choose the specific vehicle you want to enable for coverage.
There are two ways to access the insurance application within the vehicle profile:
- Click the + Apply Now button directly on the vehicle's main page.
- Alternatively, navigate to the Insurance & Roadside tab.
Complete the Application
- Click the + Apply Now button.
- Enter the vehicle's VIN, the state of registration, and the current mileage.
- Note: Vehicles with a salvage title are not eligible for the system's insurance at this time.
- Review and accept the terms and conditions.
- Click Apply for insurance.
Verification
Once submitted, the insurance status will initially show as "Under review". This process is typically fast; refresh the page after a few moments to confirm the status has changed to "Approved".
Managing Guest Coverage
Once the vehicle is approved, you can configure how insurance is presented to your renters. As described in the global settings process above, you will choose whether guests are allowed to decline the Wheelbase insurance and provide their own for your verification as described above.
Services Not Applicable to Auto
Please note that the following features are RV-specific and not currently applicable to auto rentals within the Wheelbase system:
- Global Trip Protection
- Roadside Assistance
- Interior Damage Protection
To Enable Insurance at the Global Level
Select Premium Services from the left sidebar to select and apply insurance to all vehicles.
Within Premium Services you will be prompted to select a default insurance bundle: Auto Basic or Auto Essential.
You will also see the option of allowing or not allowing your renters to decline Wheelbase coverage.
If you select No, your renters will be required to use Wheelbase insurance. Using Wheelbase insurance includes Wheelbase completing drivers license verification. Renters must be at least 25 years old to qualify for Wheelbase. If you choose to rent to someone under 25, you must verify that renter’s insurance.
Allowing renters to decline Wheelbase coverage will mean renters may use any insurance they have, but that will require you to verify their drivers license and insurance (you may use the Axle personal insurance verification).
To Enable Personal Insurance Verification at the Global Level
Select Premium Services from the left sidebar to select and apply insurance to all vehicles.
Personal Insurance Verification ($3.00 fee): When enabled, Axle will verify your renter’s policy and provide you with a report of the extent of their personal insurance coverage.
Important: If the Personal Insurance Verification setting is toggled off, you (the host) assume full responsibility for verifying the renter's insurance.
Be sure to confirm that their policy will cover their rental of your vehicle — this is particularly important to confirm in cases where a Protection Policy is not in place on the reservation.
