When applying for Wheelbase Auto Basic or Auto Essential protection, a vehicle may be flagged as Ineligible. This status typically stems from specific vehicle criteria (age, mileage, or title status), data entry errors, or a requirement for manual underwriting for exotic brands.
Common Reasons for Ineligibility
If your vehicle is marked as ineligible, check the following criteria:
Vehicle Age and Mileage
To qualify for Wheelbase Auto Basic or Auto Essential, a vehicle must meet these standards:
Age: Must be 12 years old or newer.
Mileage: Must have fewer than 200,000 miles.
Note: You can still rent these vehicles out! While they don't qualify for Wheelbase protection, you can accept the renter’s personal insurance (verified via Axle) or have the renter purchase Roamly Rental Shield to cover physical damage.
Salvage Titles
Vehicles with a salvage title are strictly ineligible for Wheelbase protection packages. If the system detects a salvage history associated with the VIN, it will be flagged immediately.
VIN Errors
Double-check the VIN entered in the Insurance & Roadside tab. A single typo can lead the system to pull incorrect data or fail to recognize the vehicle, resulting in an ineligible status.
Special Case: Exotic Vehicle Manual Review
As of March 2026, Wheelbase updated the approval process for high-value and exotic vehicles. If your vehicle belongs to one of the brands listed below, it will not be approved automatically. Instead, it undergoes a manual review by our insurance team.
Timeline: Review typically takes 24 hours.
Action Required: You only need to apply once. Submitting multiple applications for the same vehicle will not speed up the process and may cause administrative delays.
Exotic Brand List:
Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, De Tomaso, Ferrari, Hennessey, Koenigsegg, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, Mclaren, Pantera, Pininfarina, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Saleen, Shelby, Spyker, TVR, Vector.
How to Resolve Ineligibility
Verify Data: Go to the vehicle's Insurance & Roadside tab and ensure the VIN, mileage, and year are accurate.
Wait for Underwriting: If you own an exotic vehicle, allow one business day for the insurance team to complete their manual review.
